April is a very busy month on the Kasparov Chess Foundation Africa chess calendar. They recently announced that they will be sponsoring no less than three separate FIDE rated tournaments during the course of next month.

The Zimbabwe Easter Open – it has traditionally been one of the top tournaments in the Southern African region. The tournament featured a FIDE rated ladies section for the first time this year and offered a total prize pool of USD 5750! This tournament took place in Harare for the Easter Weekend. Orion Group Open – this tournament is being run in conjunction with the Hyenas Chess Club (the 2014 Gauteng League Champions) and will be the first time that a FIDE rated tournament is held in the inner city area of Johannesburg! It is a major step forward for development in the area. For more information press here.

Capablanca Chess Festival – returning to its traditional venue at Waterkloof High School this year. This tournament will again feature an IM norm section which will include some of the best players from across the African continent. For more information press here.

The dates of the Orion Group Open and Capablanca tournaments have been carefully aligned to allow out of town players to participate in no less than 13 FIDE rated games within a period of 10 days. Both tournaments offer low rates at official hotels (from R250 per night) and they look forward to a welcoming players from across South Africa and abroad to these two events.


Then KCF Africa has also announced the dates and venues of the three Millionaire Open Satellite events. These three key tournaments will be run on the following dates:
